This Ramble incorporated both a ‘City’ Ramble and a ‘Town Park’ Ramble and
together made for a very interesting day.
We started off from the Shopmobility Belfast office in Gresham Street, not far from
the Smithfield entrance to Castle-court shopping centre, and proceeded to lose
ourselves (almost literally) in the warren of little roads which you will find in the Old
Cathedral Quarter area of the City.
As we got to Customs House Square there was a blending of the old with the new as
we explored the venue for the ‘Belsonic’ music festival before heading off, over the
Lagan Weir and Queen’s bridges, to the path which leads from the Waterfront up to
the Ormeau Bridge, where we left the banks of the Lagan, and entered the Ormeau
Park, and lunch! (Thank you Belfast City Council & Edgecoumb catering)
While we were having lunch our guide to the Park, Dr Robert Scott, arrived and gave
us background information on the Park and it fauna & flora. (many thanks Robert)
The rain tried, but failed, to dampen our spirits, and the trees did a good job of
keeping us dry when a shower did come.
We left by the Park Avenue gate and travelled down the Ravenhill Road until the
Albert Bridge where we rejoined the Lagan, but on the old Sirocco Works side.
Back up through Cathedral Quarter and we were soon back at the Shopmobility
Office!
We had seen a pleasant, and interesting, variety of sights. And I had seen a
pleasant and interesting variety of Disabled Ramblers! J
